Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the tern "régionalism" with, respect to the requrements of a dictionary definition on the basis of selected 17th century texts. The alleged rrgionalisms have been extracted from the City of Lublin Book of Villains and compared with the results of research of Burger Books from Kazimierz- upon-Vistula, Grabowiec near Zamość, Puchaczów, łączna and Hrubieszów as well as from Gdansk, Chela, Piotrków Trybunalski, Przemyśl and Tarnowskie Góry. It appears that it is possible to compare over 15 phonetic and inflection features observed in all studied localities. This fact allows for an assumption that they are not regionalisms but systemic variants and characteristic features of speech (colloquialisms) different from the canon of written and printed 17th century forms.
