Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the structure of negative pronouns. It asserts a structural uniformity of this semantic category of pronouns which are formed by adding a prefix ni- to a respective interrogative pronoun. The uniformity is broken by the word żaden and it is preserved only in certain Little- -Polish dialects where there exists the word nijaki. I n the author's view there is an agreement between the Western Polish dialects and the literary language with regard to the stucture of negative pronouns. Contrary to the generally accepted opinion the confusion of nie- and ni- and the consequent loss of semantic clarity of these formants can already betraced in Old Polish.
