Summary/Abstract: The author of this article presents literary visions of post-war political detention in the famous Pitesti Phenomenon, written by Virgil Ierunca. Like the other writings mentioned in this article, this text opened the eyes of the West, and not only, about the horrors of the Roumanian gulag, and especially, of Pitesti. The central idea is to highlight the way in which suffering can convert the human being, the awareness that infallibility does not exist and that within the human being lies the Good. It also includes the description of the new man concept, as imagined by the communists and the techniques by which they have transformed themselves into sub-human beings.
