Summary/Abstract: Since the end of the Cold War division of the world in Latin America there have been significant changes of political, economic and social nature. The Latin American countries began the process of systemic transformations in the 1990s, and also carried out a number of economic reforms that positively and efficiently influenced the growth of their importance in the international relations. Brazil — the largest South American country is considered an emerging power and acts as a regional power. In the first and the second decades of the 21st century however, also other Latin American countries, such as Chile and Mexico or in Central America — Panama, aspire to become increasingly important markets in international economic relations. Cooperation with Latin American countries is intensified not only by traditional partners of the region, such as the USA, Russia, Germany, Spain or Italy, but also by developing Asian economies, such as China, India and Singapore.
