Preservation of Photography Collection at the National Archives. Case Study: Photographic Plates Collection

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present a few theoretical and practical aspects concerning the preservation of the photographic plates collection and to make the information stored on them available. First part starts with the definition of the field and a short history of photography. The main content is a general presentation of the Photographic Plates Collection, of its characteristics as well as a description of the scanning attempt that allows us to access their information. Further, I also addressed the issue of optimal storage conditions and presented a few principles and examples form other European and non-European institutions.
