A Treasurer of Language and Memory – Personal and Poetic Biography of Milosav Tešić

Summary/Abstract: The paper observes important moments in the poet’s life and his activities: the relationship towards ancient heritage, watermills, herbs, skills of versification, national culture and national issues. It was done because of the belief that knowing all of that was of great significance for his poetry and poetics. Namely, Milosav Tešić never hid the presence of the personal experience in his poetry nor did he believe that poets should run from themselves because, in that case, the loss is always greater than the win: the poet can only write about what he is and what he knows. The starting point of the poem can be reshaped or suppressed, but never lost in a good poem. In that sense the indication of empirical motives is by no means a deduction of Tešić’s poetry to a kind of cause-effect relationship, but an intimation and observation of the spiritual core from which his poetry developed.
