Summary/Abstract: The present study reviews some of the most important writings dedicated to the subject and approached a series of ideas which need to be debated in order to understand the revolutionary phenomenon. The first half of the 19th century was characterized by social and political excitements which prepared the revolution of 1848 within the Romanian Principalities. Many of them represented accumulation of quantitative nature which, even though in an invisible manner, shook the system and prepared the qualitative leap between 1848 and 1849. They grew in volume and intensity, and the consequences were decisive for the development of the Romanian society towards the progress. The analysis of the data indicates some peak periods of the phenomenon, such as the years 1821-1822, 1826-1828, 1830-1831, 1834, 1846 and 1848. There were manifestations which clearly individualized as anguishes, riots, uprisings, revolutionary movements and revolutions. The access to new documentary sources, methods of historiographic analysis or ideological approaches allowed new investigations and the correct redefining of some of these manifestations.
