THE POSSIBILITIES OF POST-WAR MOSTAR PAINTING SCENE AND SOME UNPOPULAR SOCIAL THEMES IN EVERYDAY LIFE OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN HERZEGOVINA

Summary/Abstract: This is article about the Mostar art scene and its potentials after the last war, 1991-1995. The possibilities of artistic expression in Mostar over the past two decades have not been used not even close enough to the purpose of displaying certain burning social themes, changes and new circumstances of the post-war Bosnian-Herzegovinian society burdened by various divisions, struggle for national and human rights, better living standards of people and other topics in area of social responsibility, sensitivity or criticism. After the ‘90s war, image of Mostar, along with other city centers such as Banja Luka and Sarajevo, changed greatly in social, political and cultural terms. Pictures quely said, serious social breaks and cracks have emerged. Mostar had a prominent place in pre-war cultural and artistic life of former state, and this kind of positive publicity about the specialties of the City on river Neretva remained also in some parts after the ‘90-ies war, but most authors in the paintings did not have the actual, critical themes and motifs with testimonies of the signs of time. Mostar painting scene in its general framework remained some what captivated or shattered in the inner world of a conformist view on the image of the external reality with subjects that did not have much contact with the actual state, only occasionally tapping out in to: street, square, bridge... Atmosphere from a turbulent social period 1996-2016. is inadequately or at least partially carryed on by domestic artists, leading to the conclusion that there was no suffi -cient mood, awareness or “serious social topics” simply have been bypassed in the artistic context which, with the transference of aesthetic experience, should have a corrective and critical role. At the same time, some authors, aware of the gravity of the reality and the short age of clear positive topics in every day life, deliberately have chosen a unreal, fantastic, eye-pleasing and some what hedonistic content in the direction of escape from reality.
