Summary/Abstract: What is ‘technological determinism’? Was Marshall McLuhan a ‘technological determinist’? The text compares different meanings of the term ‘determinism’. The text wants to show that the media philosophy warns of media influences on human experience. Marshall MacLuhan is not a technological determinist. Understanding human freedom does not fall into the domain of determinism. The text criticizes the views of authors who point to equalizing the views of the media philosophy and technological determinism.
