Summary/Abstract: The Macedonian question emerged on the international political scene at the time of the Berlin congress (June 13th – July 13th, 1878), when the representatives of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Great retain, Italy and France resisted the political ambitions of Russia and revised the Peace Treaty of San Stefano, according to which Bulgaria included the lands where Bulgarian ethnical population could be found. Macedonia was returned to the Ottoman Empire, although most of its population was Bulgarian.
