Summary/Abstract: The undergoing transition in our society brings new challenges to the way we understand and apply cultural policy, and consequently, media policy. After the Second World War, the Marxist form of government in the former Yugoslavia caused certain traditional values of the Serbian people to be suppressed in the media as well as in the society. The period after the October 5th revolution seemingly brought the freedom of the media, in the way of expressing the cultural values of the society. This research provides insights into the extent to which the young people in Serbia are influenced by the mass media, and their attitudes to the media regarding reports on the cultural heritage of the Serbian people in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija. Young people in Serbia believe that the media do not adequately report on the cultural heritage of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. When the media upped the coverage of the cultural heritage, it completely encouraged 52,5 % respondents to think more about it, partly encouraged 23.4% and generally 4.7% respondents, while 6.1% of the respondents were not at all encouraged to ponder the issue and 10.8.% respondents stated that they didn’t have any particular attitude (did not know the answer). Seven participants did not answer at all. The largest number of respondents, 25.9% said that their interest in the monuments in KiM was not directly related to the media reports, 14.7% of respondents indicated that their interest was not generally correlated with the media coverage while 21.6% respondents reported that it was, and 20.5% that it was partially correlated. There were 40.6%) respondents without opinion on this issue, and 10 participants did not respond. 37 % of the young people that participated in this study believe that the daily paper Kurir pays least attention to the cultural heritage, while 30% of the interviewees believe that Politika is the daily paper that is most attentive to this issue.
