Summary/Abstract: Out of 7500 names and nicknames gathered in Sławomir Gala’s work on the District of Piotrków only the surnames derived from names, which serve as the most important basis for the formation of personal surnames, have been selected. This was in order to describe the word-formative tendencies in the region’s antroponymy. It has been pointed out in the conclusion which types of surnames derived from names prevail on the territory under research, and which appear seldom, as exceptions, and in a marginal way. It turned out that such surnames as Janowski, Balcerek, Michalak, Adamczyk, and Zygmunt (the type without an aflix) prevai in the District of Piotrków. They amount to between 115 and 120 examples. The District of Piotrków is situated in central Poland, on the border of the country’s three main regions: Małopolska, Mazovia, Wielkopolska. As such, it could serve as a point of reference for similar research in other regions of Poland
