Summary/Abstract: The article presents some reasons for cognitive, theoretical and methodological benefits of exploring rural and agricultural issues. Contrary to often repeated opinions, which exist owing to antyruralistic orientation in social sciences, orientalistic practices or urban chauvinism, these are not phenomena of small importance in contemporary world. They are still a considerable part of contemporary socio-economic reality. They have profound impact on a lot of other important phenomena; moreover, examining them also enables to verify or falsify common opinions, including the well-established scientific judgments. In light of subsequent global scientific achievements, the achievements of Polish rural sociology, rural economy or historical economy – featuring mostly interdisciplinary approach – turn to be in absolute vanguard in terms of significance. This shows that rural and agricultural issues continue to be a promising area for exploration.
