Summary/Abstract: Preserving the morphogenetic character of the system of rural regions surrounding cities is becoming a much more visible issue in the zoning of Polish villages. In this paper we compare the rural region of Swołowo (situated in the vicinity of Słupsk – Pomeranian Voivodeship) with Jamno, a former village, since 2010 within the area of Koszalin (West Pomeranian Voivodeship). The main goal of this publication is to determine the impact of incorporation of rural areas into cities on their zoning and how it affects their morphogenetic character. We present the problem in terms of cartographic analysis, desk research and stocktaking of the aforementioned areas. We interpret zoning plans together with an analysis of all the documents pertaining to all levels of conservation of historic heritage. Considering the pros and cons of incorporating rural areas into bigger cities we have reviewed past and present data. Based on the research presented here we have identified optimal solutions for protecting the morphogenetic character of Jamno and Swołowo.
