Summary/Abstract: Throughout the history of the Polish nation, everything that was Polish, also meant Christian. The Church in Poland didn't exist outside the Nation, It was in the Nation. It was the soul of the Nation in the times of its greatness and, even more so, during the times of political failure, when the Christian values were the factors of survival. According to the Bishops, there were three institutions that influenced the creation of the civic society, namely: family, Church and state. The analysis of the texts of the letters concerning the teachings of the Polish Episcopate indicates the factors that led to the reduction of the civic initiative or, even, its complete annihilation. The factors are: material losses, a decline in morality as a result of war, dishonesty, hatred, fear, enslavement, lack of social integrity.
