GOOD GOVERNANCE: THE CONCEPT INHERITED

Summary/Abstract: This is a critical analysis of the development of the modern concept of Good Governance. Its contents is outlined as a result of a cumulative research of the main contributions in that area. The critique consists of few conclusions: (1) that the current notion of Good Governance contains a high degree of uncertainty, (2) that it is highly politicized, as it is a mixture of the interests of major international organizations (UN, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EU, UNESCO, etc.) and the countries participating in them, (3) that the Good Governance approach, if further developed in a certain way, would be capable of reducing seriously the negative consequences of the adoption of neoliberal model imposed by these international organizations as well as the developed Western countries on other parts of the world, which would be in the interest of all parties. Conclusions are made about the ways the now still missing integral notion of Good Governance could eventually be developed.
