Summary/Abstract: In his book Kapitalizm. Historia krótkiego trwania (Capitalism. A History of Short Duration) Kacper Pobłocki analyses history, present and possible futures of this system in a perspective he dubbed “global materialism”. The theoretical stake of his efforts was to take a look on the location of Poland after an interpretative reORIENTation, i.e. showing that the economic circumstances that brought about particular development and prosperity to Western European countries were fleeting and deteriorated considerably. The weakness of the analysis of capitalism presented by Pobłocki is a too easy rejection of the temporal dimension and failure to map a series of significant actors (such as the sea of countryside) and the outside of capitalism. Nevertheless, the book offers many refreshing theses and materials that inspire further inquiry.
