Ryszard Kapuściński Pińsk years. Shaping the identity of the traveler in mind the experience Borderlands

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the topic of Ryszard Kapuściński's memories on his early childhood in Pińsk (now Belarus). The roots of the traveler's identity and his fascination in multiculturalism are found in his childhood experience as well as his memories from that time. The idea of flexible and changeable memory is analyzed on the basis of Douwe Draaisma theories of autobiographical memory. The basis for the article is the idea of a book that Ryszard Kapuściński was planning to write, yet never did. But the motive of his childhood in the multicultural environment n the times of war is present in many of his texts and interviews, that are mentioned in the article, with the particular emphasis on short novel Ćwiczenia pamięci.
