Summary/Abstract: Project manager plays a key role in project management. Being a head of a design team he is responsible for the efficient implementation of actions. As a result, project manager’s skills and behavior, often intuitive, decide about success or failure of projects. It can therefore be concluded that they are an important “factor in the success” of the project design. The purpose of this article is to present the role of intuition in project management in the context of competence profile of an effective project manager. In connection with the so-formulated objective, the paper presents an analysis of selected results of scientific studies, taking both personality and competency as determinants of the success of the manager. The article is based, inter alia, on the results of a study by R. Mueller and R. Turner and which are presented by British scientists S. Leybourne E. Sadler-Smith.
