The Importance of NATO in the European Security Environment

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the role and importance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in creating security in the world as a result of a profound transformation of the international order after the end of the Cold War. NATO had to find its proper place in the new reality and was forced to debate the new security strategy in order to remain the most important organisation in the world and be a guarantor of security of all its members. Moreover, the article elaborates on the importance of co-operation of NATO with the EU, which sometimes becomes even rivalry in responding to crisis in the world.
