Summary/Abstract: My aim in this paper is to examine the detrimental effect of detention and its direct role in the advancement of men¬tal disorder, the significant health matters undergone by people in long-term detention, and the link between the detention of asylum seekers and mental health outcomes. The material gathered in this study provides a rich and diverse context for understanding the intricate association between the time spent in detention and the detainee’s health status, the possible negative consequences on the mental health of detained asylum seekers, and the particular risk and protective elements that impact the psychological welfare of refugees. The findings highlight the importance of examining the relationship between poor health and the period spent in detention, the impacts of detention on the mental and physical health and social behavior of asylum seekers and refugees, and the incidence of mental disorders and perceived demand for mental health care.
