Summary/Abstract: Ancient Greece contribution to the legal thought was too long in the shadows. This study aims to demonstrate that the Roman jurisprudence is greatly indebted to the way of thinking put forward by their Greek counterparts and, in doing so, will explore the general theory of law in the archaic and classical period. We will focus on demonstrating the existence of ownership rights dating back to the Homeric Age and discuss the particularities of different type of property in relation to the persons owning it. Great care will be taken to expose the appropriation of the goods by describing the type of contracts that were often employed in Athens. A special look upon the statutes enforced in the Classical Age will prove the exquisite legal taste of the Greeks, but also will show their court proceeding proficiency.
