Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the study was to assess the margins used by selected banks in foreign currency transactions with individual clients. The study was conducted on a group of 8 selected banks operating in Poland in 2009–2016. The subject of the study was the currency margins used by the surveyed banks for the Swiss franc, US dollar and euro exchange rates in FX transactions with individual clients. Statistic methods were used to analyze collected data, including in particular descriptive statistics methods. The results show that in 2009–2014 the margins applied at all exchange rates were increased, while from 2015 it was observed a decrease in the margin used in the Swiss franc, with a further increase in the margins applied to the US dollar and the euro. The research conducted is a pilot study and is the starting point for further, broader research.
