Summary/Abstract: It is scarcely known that Hungarian language is suitable to adequately sound classical (metrical) versification. Attaching to the modern Latin paraphrase of one of the most beautiful poems written by Dániel Berzsenyi, the “Hungarian Horatius” and searching for the antique antecendents and contemporary sources of the poem in question, we could again be convinced of his erudition and brilliancy appearing in the reception of his models. In the continuation, for the poetry of the same “Hungarian Horatius”, we applied the lessons of the “Menippean incursions” (Menippische Streifzüge), written by a modern author (W. von Koppenfels). Starting from earlier authors than those quoted by Koppoenfels from the antiquity, we followed up the documents of the “view from above” (kataskopia) beginning with the “all-sighted” Zeus from the height of the Olympos (or the Ida) and the balloon of the Montgolfier-brothers or with the visions of the spectators beholding the ruins of Palmyra from a Syrian hill up to the poetic meditations of our Berzsenyi, traceable back to the writing of Volnay
