Summary/Abstract: At the archaeological site Szarvas-68, from grave 366 of the Avar cemetery, a sāsānian gem, made of cornelian, came to light. Its inscription reads as follows: ’pst’n ’L yzd’n “confidence (is) in the gods”. The Avars might have carried off the gem from Central Asia and from there they might have brought with themselves when marched into the Carpathian Basin.
