Espoo Procedure in the German Legal System. Chosen Aspects

Summary/Abstract: It is not unusual that economic and investment processes influence the environment. The international legal norms on procedures connected to the environment transboundary impact assessments have been introduced into the Espoo Convention. These procedures are foreseen as a support in bettering the quality of information given to the decision- makers. Moreover, these are to enable the direct involvement in the mentioned decision processes by the citizens of the impacted areas. There are many issues that require clarification on behalf of the national legislator. In such cases the German legal system takes advantage of applicable usage national norms included in the Environmental Impact Assessment Act.
