Summary/Abstract: Throughout history, the world was rocked by numerous wars, after which the balance of power was hardly balanced. Military security has become the objective of international actors. Today, security threats are not exclusively military, its also cover the non-military dimensions of the concept. This paper addresses the issue of Islamic fundamentalism and focuses on the role of religion in the events of 11 September 2001 in the U.S. and in the Middle East conflict in 2011 to illustrate that the dichotomy Islamic democracy - Islamic terrorism is a threat against the international security.
