Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the representations of civilisational issues especially associated with the mining and geology noticeable in Polish Romantic literature. The article shows the specificity of the problem – which is far from the reality of a modernizing (not without struggle) country – composed of ignoring the matters of civilisation and introducing mystical visions and the history of martyrdom connected with the mining.
