Summary/Abstract: The national census performed on 3rd XII 1950 provides valuable pieces of information concerning Polish agriculture, including the suchlike undertakings performed in the Wieluński District. An in-depth analysis of the data published by the GSO has shown that the aforementioned region was a typical agriculture-oriented district, as almost 90% of its citizens lived in rural areas and almost 80% of inhabitants of the district worked in agriculture. Small agricultural holdings constituted the majority of all farms, for big possessions had been liquidated by state reforms. Farmers lived in small dwellings and houses (in majority of cases they consisted of two or three chambers), which were built of wood and had roofs covered with straw. Agricultural production was very limited, as in majority of cases a household could afford to breed one or two cows, few pigs and a dozen units of poultry. Horses were used for majority of agricultural works (each household had one or two of them), including soil cultivation, which was later used for breeding and harvesting cereals, roots, and legume (with both thick and thin grains). The characteristic feature of agriculture was lack of proper machinery and devices. Therefore, majority of agricultural works must have been performed manually. Farmers had many meadows, pastures and orchards in their possession.
