Summary/Abstract: Migration of Tokharians from their Indo-European original homeland to the places of their later habitation in Xinjiang is related to the prehistory, this is a commonplace, but archaeological correlates to the stages of this migration are outlined differently. Recently Vlad. Semenov suggested to hold Afanas’evo culture for Tokharian while Pit-grave culture for pre-Tokharian. This however is in disagreement with the data on the Pit-grave culture as a hearth of Indo-Iranian ethnogenesis as well as with the linguistic evidences on former sojourn of Tokharians in Finno-Ugrian medium. In the present article an attempt is made to identify Karasuk culture as Tokharian and to connect the preceding stage of their movement to the east with Fat’yanovo culture. Some data are adduced on successive ties of these two cultures.
