Western Balkans and Serbia from the Perspective of Geopolitical Analysis of the Present Situation in the Region

Summary/Abstract: in a nutshell, this publication is an attempt to examine the present situati on in the Western Balkans from the classic geopolitical aspect. The author starts from the definition of the region as a typical meta-field, that is, the territory which several world powers have aspirations to, in order to ensure the control over the main geopolitical lines. in the author’s opinion, the main actors of the geopolitical rivalry in the region are the West (the USa and its closest naTo allies), Turkey and Russia. Significant space in the pa per is given to the analysis of the process of promotion of the above men tioned actors’ geoeconomic interests in the Western Balkans. The Republic of Serbia, as an important factor of internal political processes in the regi on, attracts attention of the geopolitical rivals, thus creating additional ri sks for the country’s stability, while in the same time opening possibilities in the socio-economic sphere.
