Summary/Abstract: The globalization of production activities and the development of the IC technologies enabled the service sector’s globalization, and the organisation of its activities worldwide. The first chapter focuses on the spatial expansion of the advanced producer service sector (APS) in 16 Central-European countries based on Castells’ network society theory, Friedman’s World City Hypothesis and Sassen’ New economy model and on the methodology elaborated by Taylor on Globalization and World City Research Network (GAWC 2001) for the examination of global cities, global hierarchies. The paper conducts empirical research how far the size-based urban hierarchy changes into a network based urban hierarchy in Central Europe. The second chapter focuses on the Central European location strategies of advanced producer services. The analyses concentrates on questions whether the peripheric position of Central Europe has dissolved, in what extent it has integrated to European economic structures, and which service providers’ location strategies influence the position of the examined region most. The third part of the paper examines what impact the location decisions of advanced producer services on the Central European urban hierarchy have, which cities can be identified as centers and peripheries, and what are the underlying factors.
