Summary/Abstract: The starting point of my paper is the analysis of the sociographical and literary works of Závada Pál, I am interested in the tools and methods of narrating tradition and representing the past. The sociography and the novels highlight an always valid tradition: the photos are necessary, the life-photos of buildings, people and also of misery and pain in order to preserve this day, everything that passes and perishes, everything that one can remember. Thus I analyse the way in which the dialogue between image and text creates new ways of thinking about the past and traditions, what kind of dimensions it ensures for the narratives about suffering and history and how the tension, which is the result of placing two different messages in two distinct languages next to each other, becomes prolific.
