Summary/Abstract: Durmitor National Park is characterized by distinctive relief; hydrography; specific; interesting living world. In 1980 Durmitor National Park; as a whole; was inscribed on the World Heritage List of natural resources of UNESCO. Mountain range with 48 peaks higher than 2,000 m above sea level; with 18 glacial lakes; many karst phenomena; cavities; and caves with incised a deep canyon of the Tara River and the specific climate conditions is a significant potential for the development of winter-sports and summer; recreational tourism. On the mountain ridges of over 150 caves and caverns were registered or surveyed; and in the Tara canyon over 100 caves. At the site of Surutka there is a series of caves of which the most important cave in the hills Vjetrena is 897 m deep and 4,528 m long. Pit in Mali Lomni do is 605m deep; and 1,870 m long. Zelenovirska cave has a length of 440 m; and 180 m of depth. Because of its natural caves value it is now protected as a special caving reserve Surutka (Spatial Plan of Durmitor; 1996). In the area of Durmitor caves hava not been used for tourism purposes so far. Nothing was done to make them closer to the tourists; and in front of them there are no either landscaped grounds; no catering facilities; paved access roads; protected entrance of trails; nor electrification.
