Summary/Abstract: The object of the present analysis are polysemous animal lexemes. Only meanings of lexemes are described and compared, which comprise metaphorical extensions referring to intellectual level, human behavior and appearance. These metaphorical extensions are based on „associative stereotypes” (Kilian 2005), i.e. on conventional, collective semantic features attributed to certain animal species, which are neither objective nor verifiable in terms of truth and falsity. The compared pairs of lexemes can be equivalent to different degrees, including the zero equivalence, which most of all denote the associative and stereotypical character of the examined meanings.
