The Option of Privatizing of Social Services

Summary/Abstract: The article approaches a theme which was intensely debated during the last couple of decades: the privatization of social services as a means for insuring their quality and efficiency, due to the promotion of a competitive environment similar to the one in the business realm. The arguments for and against the privatization of social services are analised, in close conjunction with ideological elements. The article further discusses the implications of privatization at different levels: beneficiaries of social services, social workers, community and society at large.
