Summary/Abstract: The International Olympic Committee adjudicated to Athens the right to organize the first Olympic Games of the modern age. As a member country of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy Hungary has entered for the Olympic competition too. They have not been given an official Hungarian flag, so they took one from a decorated building and it was handed in on the train window. A member of the delegation was a young polytechnic student named Alfréd Hajós, born Arnold Guttman. He could not yet imagine that he will be the first athlete who obtains the first and the second Olympic champion title for Hungary.
