History of sport in the Hungarian schools and universities until 1918

Summary/Abstract: After the 1876 Compromise the organization of physical education is schools became possible.A series of sport clubs offered sport opportunities for university students. In 1887 in Budapest the first university sport club, the University Athletic Club was founded, it was the predecessor of the University Athletic Club of Budapest. In the turn of the century the Polytechnic Athletic and Football Club was established, which endorsed primarily the football. The university sport association of Kolozsvár, the Kolozsvár University Athletic Club. Furthermore, numerous sport associations and clubs were established by universities, which played a dominant role in the sport life of the regions.
