The impact of urban sports on public urban space

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present conclusions of an empirical study on selected Polishexamples that highlight a particular gap between planning ideas and designed intentions, and thereality of observed urban space usage. The study focuses on creative reinterpretation of existingurban spaces and some unobvious urban space usage (i.e., alternative to the predetermined),occurring spontaneously or intentionally. The article refers to a study that is a part of research ofapplicative nature. The aim of the research is to critically assess the assumption of urban sportsexerting a positive influence on urban public spaces, mainly through analysing a set of chosenfactors, e.g., enhancement of space attractiveness, support to the processes of integration andself-security estimation leverage of users who belong to different social groups.
