Summary/Abstract: This article examines the key factors of the cross-cultural interaction between Egyptians and Greeks and the dynamics of social and cultural change in Hellenistic Egypt. The author argues that, contrary to previous views, ethnicity did not play a direct role in the structuring of society and that, as a result, a particularly close and widespread cross-cultural interaction could develop.
