Summary/Abstract: The author calls Potemkin reportages the type of texts (reportages, notes, interviews, editorials etc.) which are meant to coat the reality with a pleasing gloss similar to the painted scenery panels of the notorious Potemkin villages. Although these texts were often used by the socialist press – by the Romanian and Hungarian press as well – they are not specific only to the Marxist press manipulation. The article presents the genesis of a reportage published in the weekly magazine Ifjúmunkás in 1973 and strips the mechanism of how the socialist press had to acquire by itself the so called “positive experience”.
