Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article has been to determine the regional identity of Opole voivodeship, as well as to find attempts at diagnosing and forming social bonds in the region. The content of the ”Special Demographic Zone” (Specjalna Strefa Demografczna) programme (SDZ) for Opole voivodeship has been analysed. Tis analysis has revealed the main features of the identity of the region, as well as the regional identity viewed in the SDZ from the perspective of the institutions in Opole voivodeship. Likewise, the article has outlined the role attributed to social bonds by the SDZ in the context of the prevention of the depopulation of the region
