Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the heroic and at the same time financially vulnerable aspects of 19th-century Transylvanian actors’ public image draws attention to the fact that selective narrativisation, the memorial genre, and the concern for social prestige usually censor the information about the constant economic uncertainty of the actors’ life. Katalin Ágnes Bartha’s study, entitled Heroic Roles and Financial Crisis, presents the tight budgetary situation and the financial adventures of the outstanding tragic hero, Gyula E. Kovács, and his wife.
