Summary/Abstract: The fragmentary bronzes of municipal laws from the Flavian age – appearing in Spain increasingly – are based on the so-called lex Flavia municipalis as a common model. The missing Germanicus title of Domitian has been regarded by the scholars for more than a secle as an axiomatically dating fact for this model law. The discovery of the lex Irnitana has brought this argument into challenge: those still adhering to the former dating neither disaffirm this statement nor mention the counter-arguments; furthermore, the changes in the dating of the Germanicus title are not always reflected in the closer literature either. The aim of this essay is to ensure a solid base for the academic dating, on the one hand, by examining the circumstances for the assuming of the Germanicus title and of its appearing in Domitian’s titulature, on the other hand, and by an accurate analysis of the counter-statements.
