Summary/Abstract: For the topic „Making and consuming tradition“ I chose to present a case study: the căluş of the commune Optaşi-Măgura (district Olt), which I followed in 1968, 1976 and again in 1992-93-94, in 1998 and 2001, and finally in 2006. I will also comment in few words on the căluş of Izvoarele (district Olt), which I recorded in 2007. Both examples are relevant to the survival mechanism of the ritual and in terms of its manipulation as a cultural commodity.
