Evolution Of Languages In Cyber Culture

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the ways in which the emergence of cyber culture and the Internet, as its key factor, has influenced the development of language. The paper investigates the effects the socalled electronic revolution has had on language in general, as well as on individual languages. The author aims to show that the English language, due to its global domination, managed to exert influence on Internet communication as well, thus becoming a challenge for other languages, including Serbian, which tend to borrow more and more English words and phrases. Finally, the paper will examine whether the way the language is used on the Internet differs from the way the language was used in the past to such an extent that the new trends could be called revolutionary.
