STRUCTURE AND ARGUMENTATION IN THE LEGAL FIELD. PRACTICAL ASPECTS

Summary/Abstract: Structure and argumentation in the legal field. Practical aspects. The purpose of this article is to firstly analyze the influence debate can have on the career of a young law practitioner, and secondly to illustrate a couple of methods widely used in the debating circuit in order to improve the structure and the general level of argumentation of a discourse. In that sense, this paper will begin by presenting the reasons why such an article is necessary, then it will explore extensively the concept of debate and the existing debating formats. Following a brief introduction to what the British Parliamentary debating format is, it will identify the practical utility of multiple defining elements of this format, mostly concerning the legal field. Finally, it will make a couple of recommendations destined to law students and law graduates in order to improve their practical argumentation abilities.
