In Search of Substance of National Competitiveness: Interdisciplinary Perspective

Summary/Abstract: High popularity of the concept of “national competitiveness” has been shaping a multi-voiced academic discourse, causing a chaos when it comes to defining, modeling and measuring this economic phenomenon. Basing on the review of international literature and through dialogue with the main critics of the competitiveness concept, the main goal of this paper is to find an interdisciplinary consensus on the substance of national competitiveness – spanning across the micro-, mezzo- and macro perspectives. The authors aim at enriching the ongoing debate on “national competitiveness” and supporting the process of fulfilling the gap, that still exists in this research area.
