Summary/Abstract: The history of the Ichthyology, Hydrobiology and Ecology Department of Dnipropetrovs’k National University is under review. Biographies of the founder of the Department – D. O. Svirenko and his followers – G. B. Mel’nikov, I. P. Lubyanov, S. P. Fediy and others are presented. Main areas of the work of the Ichthyology, Hydrobiology and Ecology Department at the moment are given.
