Summary/Abstract: The author poses questions concerning the following problem: The Catholic Church and drug addiction. The latter is now seen as a somatic disease, but also social and moral one. In the debate on drug addiction the moral perspective becomes more and more noticeable. The Church recognizes the problem, regarding drug users as recipients of its special pastoral care. The following specific questions arise in this debate: (1) What is the Church’s teaching on drug addiction, drug users, and persons threatened by drug addiction? (2) What are staff resources available for the Catholic Church in Poland to work with drug addicts and with persons threatened by drug addiction, and how professionals are being prepared to carry out the tasks entrusted to them? (3) Does the Church work in the field of prevention of addictions through its pastoral care and catechesis, and to what extent? (4) Does the Church participate in therapeutic activities through its pastoral care and by means of its specialized institutions, and to what extent? These are questions around which the author builds his text.
